Hospital Executives Discovered New Revenue Sources
Celebration, Florida, July 16, 2007 –The looming Medicare crisis and rising healthcare costs are forcing healthcare systems to discover ways to generate new sources of revenue. On Thursday, June 28, 2007, Phoenix area hospital executives discussed a solution at the first of five national Healthcare Retail Roundtables. The Roundtable discussion was led by The Paquin Group, the nation’s leading specialist in healthcare based retail. During the initial working session, hospital executives learned how building a healthcare retail system is the key to capturing vital new sources of revenue and is an important strategy in supporting a hospital’s mission and strategic direction.
Some hospital executives, like Michael Lopez, Director of Strategic Planning for Sun Health, went into the session with some skepticism.
“The Paquin Group makes a powerful statement about healthcare retail that challenges the traditional mindset of the business hospitals are in. During the Roundtable, we explored meaningful ways to tap into an entirely new revenue stream. I was skeptical walking in, but afterward found myself saying [that] this makes perfect sense," stated Lopez.
As consumers become more knowledgeable about their health and wellness choices, hospitals have an opportunity to offer the services their customers are seeking. Consumers are looking at healthcare differently, expecting more than just medical services.

The next Healthcare Retail Roundtable will take place on July 26, 2007 at 11 a.m. in Southern California at the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach. Additional Roundtables are scheduled in Chicago, Illinois on August 22, 2007, Atlanta, Georgia on October 10, 2007 and Nashville, Tennessee on October 24, 2007.
The Roundtable meetings are two-hour planning sessions sponsored by The Healthcare Retail Institute.
